Discover What Makes JB SKRUB Effective & Unique - The Complete Ingredient Guide

Core Philosophy

JB SKRUB was built because most skincare on the market is designed for adults with different skin biology. Teen skin produces more oil, sheds cells differently, and gets hit with hormonal fluctuations that adult formulations simply aren't designed for. The ingredients here were chosen specifically for that context — not borrowed from anti-aging or dry-skin lines and repackaged with different branding.

Everything in the JB SKRUB collection is EWG certified safe, dermatologist-tested, and EU-compliant. No fillers, no questionable preservatives.

What We Don't Use, and Why

Most conventional teen and many adult skincare products rely on inexpensive, lower‑quality ingredients that work short‑term but can cause problems over time. Here’s what’s commonly found in drugstore formulas and why JB SKRUB leaves them out:

Ingredient
Why it's out
Parabens
Common preservatives linked to hormone disruption. The EU has restricted several types. We use an alternative preservation systems instead.
Sulfates (SLS/SLES)
Harsh detergents that strip natural oils. Teen skin overcompensates by producing more oil, making the problem worse.
Phthalates
Endocrine disruptors used to make fragrances stick. Banned or heavily restricted in EU cosmetics.
Synthetic dyes
No functional purpose beyond making the product look "medical" or "premium." Potential irritant, especially on already-sensitive teen skin.
Artificial fragrance
One of the most common allergens in skincare. We use natural citrus and botanical extracts for scent instead.
Aluminum
Blocks sweat glands. Not something you want on a developing body that's still learning to regulate temperature.
Benzoyl peroxide
Effective but aggressive. Bleaches fabric, over-dries skin, and creates a cycle of damage and repair.
SPF in moisturizer
Changes product texture, often irritates young skin. We recommend a separate SPF applied after moisturizer.
Silicones
Coat hair and skin without nourishing them. Build up over time and can trap oil and bacteria.
Heavy oils
Clog pores on already-oily teen skin. Counterproductive for acne-prone faces.
Gluten / GMOs
Unnecessary additives with no skincare benefit. Clean formulation means leaving them out.

The Face Wash

Why this works for teen skin:

Hormonal surges make teen skin produce way more oil than adult skin. Harsh cleansers strip that oil, which sounds good but actually backfires. The skin panics and produces even more. This wash uses gentle surfactants plus succinic acid to regulate sebum without triggering rebound oiliness.

Ingredient
What it actually does
Succinic Acid
Regulates sebum production — a gentler alternative to salicylic acid that doesn't strip the skin barrier
Niacinamide (Vitamin B3)
Balances oil production and strengthens the skin's protective barrier
Lactobacillus Ferment
Postbiotic that supports the skin's natural microbiome — the good bacteria that keep acne-causing microbes in check
Chia Seed (Salvia Hispanica) Extract
Omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty acids that hydrate without adding oil
Willowherb (Epilobium Angustifolium) Natural antibacterial and soothing agent that calms redness
Green Tea (Camellia Sinensis) Antioxidant protection against environmental damage
Aloe Vera (Aloe Barbadensis) Soothes irritation and provides lightweight hydration
Sodium Benzoate & Potassium Sorbate Food-grade preservatives that keep the formula stable without parabens

Skipped: SLS/SLES, artificial fragrance, parabens, phthalates, synthetic dyes, phenoxyethanol

Usage: Pump twice, foam up, rinse. Use washcloth for gentle exfoliation.

The Face Lotion

Why this works for teen skin:

Teen skin doesn't need heavy creams — it needs hydration that won't clog pores or feel greasy. This moisturizer uses squalane and jojoba esters that mimic natural sebum without adding to the problem. The chlorella vulgaris is there because teens spend half their lives in front of screens. Chlorella vulgaris is a blue-green algae known to help protect against blue light aka screen-time.

Ingredient
What it actually does
Squalane
Lightweight, non-greasy hydration that absorbs quickly and doesn't clog pores
Jojoba Esters
Structurally similar to human sebum, so skin recognises it as familiar rather than fighting it
Niacinamide (Vitamin B3)
Regulates oil production and reduces the appearance of enlarged pores
Rosehip Fruit Extract
Helps normalise sebum production and controls shine throughout the day
Andiroba / Copaiba / Açaí Oil Complex
Plant oils with anti-inflammatory and antiseptic properties that calm active breakouts
Chlorella Vulgaris
Algae extract that helps defend against blue light exposure from phones and screens
Tocopherol (Vitamin E)
Antioxidant that protects against environmental stressors

Skipped: Heavy oils, pore-cloggers, SPF (irritates young skin, changes texture — use a separate SPF after moisturising)
Usage: 1-2 pumps, rub all over face.

The Face Pads

Why this works for teen skin:

Some teens won't do a full routine, as in wash their face and use moisturizer. These pads are the compromise — swipe and toss. Biodegradable, recyclable, and they actually clean. Perfect for post-sports when they're too tired to care.

Ingredient
What it actually does
Succinic Acid
Clears pores and removes dead skin cells without the harshness of glycolic or salicylic acid
Niacinamide (Vitamin B3)
Balances oil production across the T-zone and cheeks
Willowherb (Epilobium Angustifolium)
Soothes irritation and provides natural antibacterial action
Lauryl Glucoside
Plant-derived cleanser that lifts dirt and oil gently

Skipped: Harsh acids, drying alcohols
Usage: Swipe face, toss pad (biodegradable, recyclable). Post-sports cleanup.

The Body Wash

Why this works for teen skin:

Teen bodies are active- sports, gym, just generally moving. JB SKRUB Body Wash cleans without stripping, uses natural citrus instead of synthetic fragrance, and won't leave residue that clogs pores on acne prone areas such as the chest and back.

Ingredient
What it actually does
Cocamidopropyl Betaine + Sodium C14-16 Olefin Sulfonate
Gentle cleansing duo — one lifts dirt, the other creates lather without sulfates
Propanediol
Plant-derived hydrator that helps other ingredients penetrate the skin
Citrus Sinensis (Orange) Fruit Extract
Natural citrus scent.  No synthetic fragrance
Chia Seed (Salvia Hispanica)
Omega fatty acids that hydrate body skin without heaviness
Aloe Vera (Aloe Barbadensis)
Soothes skin after activity and hot showers
Green Tea (Camellia Sinensis)
Antioxidant protection for skin that's frequently exposed and washed
Lactobacillus Ferment
Supports the skin microbiome, especially important for areas prone to body acne

Skipped: Sulfates, artificial fragrance, heavy moisturisers that leave residue
Pro tip: PNB — Pits, Nuts, Butts. In that order. Oh yeah, and feet.

The Body Spray

Why this works for teen skin:

Growing bodies need to sweat — it's part of temperature regulation. Aluminum antiperspirants block sweat glands, which isn't healthy for developing bodies. Zinc ricinoleate traps odor without interfering with natural processes.

Ingredient
What it actually does
Zinc Ricinoleate
Traps and neutralizes odor molecules without blocking sweat glands — a natural alternative to aluminum
Ethanol SDA 40B
Quick-drying carrier that evaporates without leaving residue on clothes
Chia Seed (Salvia Hispanica)
Hydrates sensitive underarm skin
Aloe Vera (Aloe Barbadensis)
Soothes sensitive underarm skin
Orange Fruit Extract + Peel Oil Natural citrus scent from actual fruit, no synthetic scent

Note: This is not an antiperspirant. It neutralizes odour, but doesn't stop sweating — healthier for growing bodies.

Skipped: Aluminum, synthetic fragrance, propylene glycol
Usage: Spray pits, chest, arms. Don't overdo it.

The Shampoo

Why this works for teen skin:

Teen scalps are oily, and they sweat more than adults. Daily washing is generally fine and dependent on hair texture.  JB SKRUB Shampoo is sulfate-free but still cleans properly, with prebiotics to keep the scalp microbiome balanced.

Ingredient
What it actually does
Sodium C14-16 Olefin Sulfonate + Cocamidopropyl Betaine + Decyl Glucoside
Three gentle cleansers that work together — sulfate-free but effective on oily teen scalps
Inulin
Prebiotic from chicory root that feeds the good bacteria on your scalp
Hydrolyzed Rice Protein
Strengthens hair strands, adds shine and volume without silicones
Aloe Vera (Aloe Barbadensis) Juice
Hydrates the scalp and relieves itching from sweat and product buildup
Sodium PCA
Amino acid-derived compound that helps hair retain moisture
Citrus Peel Oils (6 types) Natural scent from actual citrus peels — complex and fresh, not chemical

Skipped: Sulfates, silicones, artificial fragrance, harsh detergents

Pro tip: Use every day. Yes, every day. Use JB SKRUB Scalp Skrubber - feels great too!

The Pimple Patches

Why this works for teen skin:

Teens pick their pimples. It's a fact. These patches stop the picking, absorb fluid from whiteheads overnight, and deliver salicylic acid and niacinamide exactly where needed without drying out the surrounding skin.

Ingredient
What it actually does
Hydrocolloid (Carboxymethyl Cellulose, Polyisobutylene, Polyurethane)
Absorbs fluid from whiteheads, creates a physical barrier against picking, and reduces inflammation
Salicylic Acid
Dissolves oil and dead skin inside the pore
Niacinamide (Vitamin B3)
Hydrates the skin around the spot and prevents the dry, flaky ring that other treatments leave

Skipped: Benzoyl peroxide (harsh, bleaches fabric), drying alcohols, artificial colours
Best for: Pimples with a visible head. Apply fresh patch before bed.

How JB SKRUB Is Different

Most teen skincare falls into two camps: cheap drugstore stuff loaded with sulfates and benzoyl peroxide that strips skin and creates a cycle of damage, or premium adult brands repackaged with brighter colors and a "teen" label.

JB SKRUB is neither. Our formulations were developed with the guidance from a dermatologist for the specific biology of teenage skin with higher sebum production, hormonal fluctuations, and a barrier that's still developing. Every ingredient serves a very unique and specific purpose.

The line is also designed for how teens actually live. Face pads for the kid who won't wash their face. Body spray that doesn't block sweat glands. Shampoo that can be used daily because teen scalps are oily, not dry. Pimple patches that stop picking and work overnight.

It's not about being "clean" as a marketing angle. It's about formulations that make sense for the skin they're treating.
