Summer Skincare for Active Teens: How to Survive the Heat
My son lives at the pool from June to September. By July, his skin smells like chlorine permanently and breaks out from the combination of sweat, sunscreen, and pool chemicals. Summer skincare isn't about beauty — it's about survival.
Why Summer Is Harder on Teen Skin
Heat increases oil production. Sweat mixes with oil and bacteria. Sunscreen clogs pores. Chlorine dries skin out. Salt water irritates. And teens are outside more, active more, and showering more — often with harsh products that make everything worse.
It's a perfect storm. Most parents don't adjust their teen's skincare routine for summer because they don't realize they need to.
The Summer-Specific Problems (And Fixes)
Problem 1: Sweat Acne
Sweat itself doesn't cause acne. But sweat + oil + bacteria + trapped pores = breakouts. Especially on the forehead, back, and chest.
💡 Fix: Wash immediately after sweating. Don't let sweat dry on skin. Our Face Wash and Face Pads will help with clearing the dirt and bacteria that causes breakouts. The Body Wash handles sweat and bacteria without over-drying. Keep a travel size Face Wash, Body Wash and Face Pads in their gym bag or pool bag.
Problem 2: Chlorine Damage
Chlorine strips natural oils and disrupts skin barrier. Frequent pool swimmers often have dry, irritated skin that paradoxically also breaks out.
💡 Fix: Rinse immediately after swimming — don't let chlorine sit. Moisturise after every pool session. Our Face Lotion is lightweight enough for post-pool use and won't feel greasy in humidity.
Problem 3: Sunscreen + Breakouts
Many sunscreens are too heavy for oily teen skin. They clog pores and cause "sunscreen acne" — breakouts that appear exactly where sunscreen was applied.
💡 Fix: Choose oil-free, non-comedogenic SPF. Apply on top of your Face Lotion. Wash thoroughly at night, then swipe your face with a Face Pad to ensure no sunscreen residue is left behind to trigger a breakout.
Problem 4: Increased Showering
Teens shower more in summer, after hanging out at the pool, sports, and just being outside. More showers with harsh products = stripped skin = more oil production = more breakouts.
💡 Fix: Use gentle, sulfate-free products. Our Body Wash cleanses effectively without stripping, even with daily (or twice-daily) summer showers.
The Summer Routine (Slightly Different)
Morning: Face Wash → Face Pads → Face Lotion → SPF (oil-free, non-comedogenic)
Post-Pool/Sport: Rinse chlorine/sweat immediately → Shower with Body Wash → Face Wash → Face Lotion
Night: Face Wash (remove sunscreen thoroughly) → Face Lotion → Pimple Patch if needed
The difference from winter? More washing, more moisturising, and sunscreen as non-negotiable.
The Products That Handle Summer
Our products are designed for year-round use, but they especially shine in summer:
Face Wash: Sulfate-free formula handles increased summer washing without stripping.
Face Pads: Gentle exfoliating pads that clear away dead skin, help to unclog pores, remove dirt, excess oil and balance skin pH
Face Lotion: Oil-control and lightweight — perfect for humid summer days. Won't feel greasy under SPF.
Body Wash: Gentle enough for daily (or twice-daily) summer showers. Citrus scent feels fresh in the heat.
Pimple Patches: Summer breakouts happen. These handle them overnight while teens sleep.
The Bottom Line
Summer doesn't require different products — it requires more consistent use of the right ones. Wash after sweating. Use a Face Pad to quickly cleanse and wipe away excess left behind dirt/oil. Moisturize after chlorine. Use SPF. And don't let "it's summer, we're relaxing" become "it's summer, we stopped washing our face."
